Brand new home Energy bills seem to be extortionate

Please check the actual meter, not the in house display (IHD) for energy used.
For the next week or so, take a daily reading from the actual meter at the same time. Then you can try to figure out what uses the energy.

I do find 0.06kW very low for a computer (unless it is a laptop on charge). But you also have other devices on stand-by and running (router, fridge) so that IHD reading looks suspect.
  • 60W power usage for an idling computer is about right - a modern PC can use as low as 10-15W on idle (obviously more if it has a graphics card, multiple hard drives etc.) and a modern 24" 1080p monitor will use 15-20W when on.

The bill values for per kWh and standing charges are without VAT (5%) on the bill but stated with VAT in the first set you gave.
    So that works out.

In the first 24 days, you averaged 8.1kWh used per day.

Since it has risen to an average of 8.3kWh per day. (1685 units - 760 October reading divided by days since [111 days])

    Not a massive increase.

And the last bill is only 8.5kWh averaged per day. People tend to use more energy in winter.

this is approx 9 units a day - 3200 units a year . This is above average.

Cost £442 units + £91 standing charge + VAT = £560 ie £50 a month. You were underpaying and Octopus has adjusted the monthly DD to ensure you are in balance at the end of rthe fix.

The In House Display IHD is misleading you - it seems to still be holding the BG tariff. Ignore and just read the meter in the outdoor meter box.

    that is above average. 3300

People keep saying that. But I find it unfeasably low for a modern household. Maybe for your gran with 2 sockets in the house for a fridge and a tv and a few lights.

And of course averages are brought down by mainly empty properties.

    I would say 5000 a year is doing good for a 3 bed/2 people.

Yesa I know manmy people on here disagree. Have solar panels and I might start to accept things a little, but there are so many ridiculously low users on here that they either never use anything electric (unrealistic) or they buy £1000 worth of battery's a year (silly).

Anyway just my view that under 5000 is unrealistic for a "modern" household of that size.

but how is it above average when there's nothing on in the house when im out, and when I am in I use only the tv or pc, and 2 eco LED lights?! thats what im not getting....

this is the sort of usage you see when someones growing weed in every room in the house!

im out the house 6-8 hours a day... I sleep for 8 hours a night... that leaving 8 hours of the house idling doing absolutely nothing other than keeping the fridgefreezer on.

it makes no sense im using more power than a family of 3/4 who are in all day using all their electronics do you see where im coming from here?

    Er - no

You need to sit down and really look at what you have in your house ?

Your 5 min (really ?) shower ; fridge/freezer - is it an American type with compressor running ? ; how do you cook ? ; only 2 LED on in evening (really ?) ; light left on in the attic ?

Read your meter at the same times every day and keep records.
