Log Book Special Notes Question

Log book (V5C) arrived for car, that I bought.
Under section 3 "Special Notes", the following is this section:
"This vehicle has been salvaged because the estimated cost of commercial repair was more than the value of the vehicle".
So, at some point the car has been written off, by insurance, and it has then been repaired and put back on the road?
Can someone clarify this please.
Also, some other points, NO mention in new log book V5C, if the car has been put into a category.
So do I assume that it is NOT in a insurance category?, please advise.
Does the insurance company need to know about the "special note"?
Car is 17 years old, on gov website, the MOT history only goes back to 2008. How do I check before that?
OH, and before anyone comes back the usual statements, you should of checked before you buy etc, please don't. The car was bought cheap enough and is project car.
Thoughts please.

"This vehicle has been salvaged because the estimated cost of commercial repair was more than the value of the vehicle".
That doesn't make sense.
Normally a vehicle would not be salvaged, because the cost of repair was more than the value.
"even though" would make more sense than "because".This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

This is the exact wording that is in the notes. What do you mean please???0 -
That wording would make it a cat c. If it had been cat A or B they would not issue a new v5c. Cat D would not have resulted in a note on the v5c.0

There is NO reference to CAT C or any CAT in the log book.
How do I find this out? Surely if it was labelled with a category (CAT) it would say in the new V5(C).

If you want to see the words 'category C' somewhere 'official' you could get an HPI check on the car, which generally means paying a few quid. I've heard that a cheapskate version is to go to the Auto Trader website and begin the process of writing an advert for it. The database will be checked as part of the process, and if there's a write off marker against the car it will be flagged up before you actually have to get your credit card out.
You don't have to tell the insurance company about the marker unless they specifically ask if the car's ever been written off. Most insurers don't ask. A small number of insurers say in their assumptions that the car has not been written off, so check the assumptions carefully. But on the whole you should have no trouble insuring it. The main difference the write off marker makes is that in the event of it being written off again, the payout might be reduced a bit to reflect theeffect that the write off marker has on the car's value.0 -
I believe the wording on the V5C has been changed.
eg. Salvage with damage to the structural parts (realignment to original dimensions or replacement of frame or chassis) of the vehicle will now be category S (S for Structural). As in the case of category C currently, insurers will destroy the V5C registration document and buyers will need to apply to DVLA for a replacement V5C. This will continue to be FREE OF CHARGE. The replaced V5C issued by DVLA WILL be annotated (as Category C currently is) but the wording will change, reflecting the new category definition, to: 'This vehicle has been salvaged because of structural damage but has been declared suitable for repair following a technical evaluation'.

It says that this one has been salvaged, which is the exact opposite of what you are saying. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

It says that this one has been salvaged, which is the exact opposite of what you are saying would normally happen.
It is ridiculous to explain this as "because" it was unecomic. To make sense it would have to say "despite" being uneconomic. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
