Oil Stains on Car

I have oil stains near the petrol cap and also on the other side of the car a hand print which again I assume is oil - been on the car for about a year but cannot get rid of it - is there anything I can buy that would remove these stains. I am not one to wash my car on a regular basis, I generally use a cheap car wash soap and hot water - but obviously these are next to useless at removing the tougher stuff.
Any help would be appreciated.

If it is oil it will come off with washing up liquid. It's is more likely to be something which has eaten into the clear coat over time. Get some t cut / t cut metallic depending on your paint. If that does not remove the marks you are likely to be stuck with them.

What is wrong with white spirit? It will dissolve oil, it might take any wax off as well, but it won't hurt dried paint.
Most people have some left over from the last time they painted the woodwork.

  • Well its a paint thinner for one so best not applied to paint I think. You might get away with it on sound clearcoat but I wouldn't want to leave it there; clean off with plenty of soap and water afterwards and then re-wax.
