administration
An energy company I used to be with has gone into admin and fortunately for me I thought I left before this happened!! i have today received a letter saying that I owe the administrators money from that account, I left due to material distress and financial loss and was going to go down the route of contacting the Ombudsman and the FCA due to their practices, however after leaving I thought I was best out of it and just move on............so I have no intention of paying this supposed debt, but what is my best course of action? I have emailed the debt collection company acting of behalf of the administrators explaining that if they pursue the supposed debt I will fight it and claim for afore mentioned distress and loss

You dont have to be coy about who the energy company was or is - have a look at this thread for what's happening with IRESA and see if there's any advice that you can glean from it. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5961393/iresa-deloitte-debt-letter
The main thing being to keep you own records and try to download and save them if they are still available - and that goes for all the energy companies, the one that went bust, the one you might have ben transferred to and the one you swapped to afterwards.
I think the trend of useless and incompetent energy companies is going to continure and so you only protect is to make sure that you downlaod and save all bills, statements and communications for the statutary six years.
You dont need to print it all out but make sure that is saved and backed up somewhere otherwise it's nigh on impossible to prove what happened when they shut down their websites and accounting systems and pass it on to the administrators or debt collection companiesNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Just ensure that there is no black mark on your credit record.
Unfortunately the DCA's are never concerned with the merits of a case and normally will just keep generating threatening letters.
If you go to the Small claims Court you will only be able to recover any financial loss, but nothing for distress.0
