Don't want to help relative

This is odd. It's the dad pushing for it, not the son, for all you know the son may not be interested at all.
I think I'd say that I'd be willing to have a chat with the son if he wants to get in touch, but that there is obviously a limit to what you can say, but you're happy to give general advice. I suspect you won't hear from the son, and that he either doesn't know what his dad is doing, or is looking for an easy way in without doing any real work. If the former, well, that's for them to sort out. If the latter, then I think that tells you all you need to know about his character.
I assume the son is quite young? Late teens, early 20s? If older, then it feels very odd indeed!0 -
In terms of any opening or recommendations, just say to your relative that you are not involved in hiring so if son is interested, he needs to follow the standard application process.
In terms of information, there is a difference between disclosing information which would be confidential, which of course you can't and shouldn't do, and giving some more general information about what the firm is like to work for, what sorts if things in general might help son to get a job in your industry - the sort of things you might talk about if you were asked to give a talk to students.
Of course, you don't *have* to do that, but t wouldn't be inappropriate or be something which would be likely to be an issue for your employer. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0
