Jazz should be a sensible and reliable choice and will be well up to motorway journeys. I have a Mazda2 (same size as the Jazz) and it cruises happily at 80 on the motorway (in countries where that is allowed, obviously).

Want to buy my Superb? 61 plate TSI 1.8 61k miles - been an amazing car. The only reason i am looking to sell is that we are buying another Skoda!! We are looking at about £5k - check autotrader.

A lot of car for your money.

OP, if it's your first car, you may have to budget a fair old whack for insurance...create an account on confused.com or similar, and when you see cars advertised, use it for instant quotes - you may fnd you need to go for a cheaper car to allow for the insurance costs. Same can be said for VED costs - most adverts on Autotrader will have this already in the Economy & Performance section. Buying and running a car is about way more than just buying the car ;)

if the use is as you describe have you considered renting a car as and when or a car club if there is one local to you? It may work out better value.

I had a Jazz as a courtesy car a couple of years ago, I can't say I liked it all that much but it was perfectly fine keeping up with other traffic. My main bugbear was how poor the general visibility was, was all thick pillars and oversize blind-spots from what I remember.

I’ve owned a Jazz for just over a year now. My experience of the visibility from the Jazz is that it’s very good with none of the issues you describe.

Whatcar magazine also remarks on the good visibility giving it 4 stars out of 5 in that category.
