British Gas - Laye payment on Credit File

Hi all,
Sorry long-time lurker, 1st time poster so bare with me!
Year before last I accessed all 3 of my CRA credit reports in order to start getting ready to apply for a mortgage - on my file there is a late payment marker from British Gas going back to 2011 - only the last 6 years show up so atm it starts at Feb 13 until Oct 17 when it was marked as settled
The account was never defaulted by them, only marked as late payment which means it wont drop off my file for another 6 years after it was settled in Oct 17 which is really harming our chances to go through with the mortgage application
I've tried phoning them but they have said there is nothing they can do to amend my account as it is now closed so I can only wait until 6 years has passed after the settled date (so Oct 2023! as I'm in Scotland)
Is this correct? Is there nothing I can do? It seems awfully unfair that due to paying the bill it resets the counter and i have to wait another 6 years
For info we have a mortgage broker who was looking into a government help scheme combined with a Skipton BS mortgage but they need a completely clean credit score, we have already tried for an AIP which was rejected
Can anyone help? Is there any further action I can take or is it just a case of waiting another 4 and a half years :mad:

Ask them to mark it as defaulted within 6 months of the missed payment - effectively removing it.0

Thanks for your reply - i did request them to do this but they've said they can't amend any details on the account including the late payment marker - is it a case of perservering with them until they change it?0
