Hi im getting a new kitchen and the Builder has gave me the start date.

He said it should take up to 5 weeks and wants me to move out.

What do most people do when they get a new kitchen that takes 5 weeks do you move out or stay.

Move out? and leave your home and possessions in the trust of a builder?

I'd stay in and move the fridge, kettle, and microwave into another room. You can still use those.

Get used to sandwiches, picnic food, microwave meals, super noodles, etc and live like a student :).

You could even BBQ stuff. Our gas one has a grill and a hob so we'd be ok.

Depends on the layout of the property and your lifestyle. Some kitchens can be sealed off to reduce dust, other kitchens are located more centrally.

Wash dishes in the bath. Fill the freezer with homemade meals, stock up on healthy tinned foods. Desk or dining table as worktops.

Other meal preparation using a slow cooker (or combi pressure/ slow), microwave (or combi micro/ oven), kettle (obvious + boiled eggs), electric griddle/ grill, stick blender.

BBQ as mentioned above is a good addition if you have outside space.

Thanks for your comment. It’s not that he’s just doing the kitchen it’s knocking down conservatory and rebuilding, knocking through to conservatory from the kitchen, building out and a new roof that dining area is the conservatory at the min

Substantial work you got going, if you have the luxury of moving out during the works, would be convenient. The amount of dust and mess that would be around will be lots. Also sometimes it looks like it just this and that and it shouldn't take that long, and then soon it amounts up with things like flooring , new electrics, plumbing, worktops, cabinets, plastering, making good. Materials and tools and you got hardly any space to manoeuvre.

Our architect has advised us to move out during upcoming building works at our home. He said that otherwise the builders would be tip-toeing around us, adding time and cost to the works. It does make sense and we have decided to buy a static caravan that will be placed at the end of the garden for us to live in for the 5+ months it is estimated to take to complete the works.

We're not looking forward to it, but think it better than being in a constant fog of builder noise/dust.

We also have the added bonus of keeping the caravan as an outside entertainment building - or just selling it on.

I fit kitchens for a living.

And the answer to your kitchen is 'No. It isn't'
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.
