Residential Parking

Could someone please help me or direct me to information that will help me in the following situation.

My friends stay in flats, there is no indication to this being a private street let alone private parking. However, their downstairs neighbor is adamant that their is assigned parking spaces (there is no signs, marked bays) and whenever I have parked outside their house, when as far as I am aware you are not entitled to park outside of your house they become very aggressive and demand for me to move despite at that current moment there are other spaces (which I would park in normally when they have been available). I would also be happy to move if they weren't so aggressive.

The answer will be in their lease/tenancy agreement. Or visit the Land Registry website and download the deeds for the property for a small sum (£3 ish). You can get the neighbours deeds that way too. ;)

The neighbour sounds more like a NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) ... irrationally possessive over "their" space outside their property.

There is unlikely to be allocated parking if there are no markings. However, the lease will state definitively one way or the other.

Deciding whether to move your car or not based on how upset someone is when you park in front of their house is generally not a good idea. It is likely to increase the tension - particularly if you make it clear that your decision is based on how you perceive their emotional state. If this is a particular problem or inconvenience for them then perhaps their reaction is understandable regardless of the legalities of the matter.

Then I'd move, why wind them up?

You'd need markings to have assigned spaces. Lots of people feel that the bit of road outside of their window is "theres", and only they are entitled to use it for parking. They usually seem less concerned about ownership when it comes to repairs, though.

Doesn't always have to be irrational. If someone parks in the space outside my house, it makes it awkward to get out of my drive.

Obviously, as a Total Driving God, I am more than capable of messing with gears, steering wheel etc., & carefully observing more round some van, but it turns a simple drive out into the road into an irritating multi-stage manoeuvre.
(Now if I had rear wheel steering, like a stacker truck, it would be fine ;))
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))
