How to insulate old converted outhouse?

HI,

Hoping that someone might have some brilliant ideas. We have recently converted an attached outhouse / coal shed into a swish new office (where I am typing as we speak) and a bathroom. The problem is it is a single brick construction with 2 sides as external walls and REALLY cold in winter so being able to use the shower is a really seasonal affair.

To make it worse, the window in the bathroom is single glazed.

I would welcome any ideas as to how I can insulate these rooms without having to rip anything out.

here's hoping:)

You could consider fixing insulation batts to the outside wall. Then mesh and then rendering?

Alternatively the best bet was to use 2 inch wood studs on the inside, insulation between them then plasterboard and paint.

  • doing the thing to the outside sounds best, any idea of rough costs to get someone to do it?

Sorry I have no idea what it would cost. I saw it being done once to an older building with thin walls as a way of insulating it and keeping out the damp.

  • Houses in Germany are insulated from the outside. If extension not too big and single storey, it is easily done by someone of average DIY skills. You should find website covering this subject without too many difficulties.
  • tahnks for teh advice everyone I will try to find out some more on this:)
