Hi, I have just seen the tariff and it looks very competitive for me. I am coming to the end of my 2 year fixed deal and I am now free to switch with no exit fees and I am now considering E.ON for Electricity at the moment.

However, I have a question. I am currently with SSE and they are due to install a SMETS2 smart meter in March, about a week before my fixed rate tariff ends. Will the SSE SMETS2 smart meter work with E.ON? I don't know what make etc it will be. Do i need to get a new in-home display and is it easy to setup?

Also, do i need to wait till the meter is fitted before starting a switch as i guess it may take a few days for new meter to be registered on various systems? or can I start the switch and SSE will still come out and change the meter for a SMETS2 meter?

If i have to wait, this will obviously mean i'd miss the 22nd Feb deadline to switch by.

Thanks

Kev

If you start a switch now, then SSE won't be your supplier in March! (So won't have any reason to be calling at your property then)

Well we have had people posting that it can be weeks into months to get the new meter registered so you are gambling a bit that the new meter will be setup quickly.

Don't worry as soon as you join E.ON they will be offering you a smart meter (they are very persistent about offering - I'm an ex-customer who got fed up with the enquiries several years ago).

Switch and then get the smart meter from E.ON is the easiest way forward.

Morning Kev and, once you start a switch, accounts are locked down when we apply to take over the supply. At this point, appointments for meter exchanges won't go ahead.

If you do decide to join us and once the switch is complete, as gsmlnx says, our smart meter teams will be happy to book a new appointment to change your meter.

    Hope this explains Kev.
