Should I replace whitegoods?

Because I had been admiring a friend's new kitchen I started looking at mine and working out how old things were.

The kitchen was installed in 1983 which dates the fan oven and hob.
Tumble dryer 1985.
Washing machine 1990.
Fridge/freezer 1991.

Now I know that modern appliances are much more fuel efficient so should I be looking at replacing them or just keep going till they break down?

(or am I just looking for an excuse for a new kitchen )

it would take yrs of energy saving cost to recuperate the outlay of ie 1500 quid.
youre just looking for an excuse!
    :)
    Get some gorm.
  • Even though you are looking for an excuse so what, if you are retired and have the money then go for it. I thought that was the idea of retirement, to relax and enjoy life after many years of hard work, let your friends admire your kitchen instead of vice versa.
It's easier to get rid of your old goods while there still working and you may even get a few quid for them, if not then do a good deed and give to needy.
Also if you use this site you're bound to get the best deals on whatever you purchase as MSE is full of helpful people offering allsorts of advice.
    GOOD LUCK:T

Thanks Ormus, I wasn't sure about that - so the benefits only come when you are replacing equipment which has failed.

having said you are just looking for an excuse, I was reading the HHSRS regulations today ( I am really bored)

Since your kitchen is over 20 years old, it is considered substandard by the government...is that enough of an excuse for you to change it?

Just realise mine is too....... :rotfl:

we really should replace our whole kitchen...not just the white goods!

    Wanna go shopping??
