Forced switch to OVO

Hi,

We were recently automatically switched to OVO energy because our previous supplier, Spark, went bust. We made a payment on the website at the start of december to pay our november bill. The reason for the payment was explicitly stated on the website when we made the payment.

We have since been informed that the payment was taken by Ovo and "adjusted" into a security deposit for the account. We now have a debt collection agency after us for the November bill we had paid, as the administrators of Spark energy say we still owe them for it.

We have 2 questions:
Do we owe money for the bill we had already paid?
Will we get this Ovo security deposit back at the end of our 1 year tenancy, or would it carry on to the next tenant?

Thanks for your help!

Unless I'm missing something, Spark energy should have transferred your closing balance, positive or negative, to Ovo and if you owe anyone money it should be Ovo.

To whom did you make the online payment and was Spark already in administration at that time?

If Ovo are trying to ensure your account is in credit by taking some extra money and calling it a 'security deposit', then you should expect that to be factored into your final bill and any excess returned along with any other credit balance.

You may have been forced to switch to OVO, but you are not forced to stay.
  • Hi Sam00000

We sent out a bill insert covering what the deposit is, and how it works, but it sounds like you've not received it.

Can you drop me a line to the email address in my profile? I'll need your full name, your supply address and any other information you think might be helpful.

I'd be happy to have a look at this for you.

    Kind regards

Can you also explain here, what the deposit is and how it works?
