Mobile Router

We don't have access to WiFi at our caravan, so use our phones as mobile hotspots. This uses a significant amount of data. I'm trying to assess whether buying a mobile router with a sim card (mifi) would-be cheaper. Any suggestions or recommendations would be welcome.

Compare the cost per MB on various sims.0

MiFi.
3 Data payg sims can be bought at a fair price 24GB valid 24 months (£60 from 3 less elswhere) or 12GB for 12 (£40 or less).
When data runs out buy another sim and bin the old. Suits many caravanners.
Others recommend EE data sims.
Do your own due diligence research on prices etc.,.
NB You need to be clever with the use of devices connected. Ensure they connect as a 'metered connection' to prevent auto update downloads. Stop all 'autoplay' of videos etc.,. to conserve data usage.0 -
What network do you use your phone as a mobile hotspot?0

Don't forget to check that the network you choose has coverage where you want it.
Certainly Three's coverage in rural areas isn't too good.0 -
Actually it can be surprising good in some areas, in parts of Wales in particular, I can get a 3 signal and nothing else.0

Well in North Hampshire it certainly isn't!

Three's 800 MHz 4G data coverage is actually better than most in my experience. We use a Huawei B310 4G router in Wales where there is no mobile phone voice signal at all by any provider, including Three, but we can get enough of a Three 4G signal for Whatsup calls, surfing the web and emails etc.0 -
As Gloomendoom says Three have one of the best networks in the UK, 800 Mhz services are designed with rural areas in mind, it provides better service. Check which of the four UK network providers, Three, EE, 02 & Vodafone, are in your area and then check the local coverage and services in that area. Once you've done that then you will be better informed as to who you go with.
Go across to

and use the check coverage box by typing in a postcode and that should give you a good idea of what to expect from your chosen supplier.0 -

As I said:
Sorry, there's no 4G coverage in your area right now. But don't worry, join Three and you can access the fastest 3G network in the UK.
Perhaps I need to move to Wales!

Wasn't aware that Jime152 had posted info about his area. There's always a welcome in the hillside in Wales along with 4G coverage to boot.0
