Top Oven/Grill not working as it should

I've got a double oven - fan on bottom, conventional oven/grill on top. The grill works by simply leaving the door open and turning the knob to the desired temperature. Unfortunately, with the door open I'm getting no heat at all. It still works perfectly as an oven - the element heats up, the thermostat seems to be fine as I've tested a few food items and they cooked perfectly at various temperatures - it just won't function while the door is open, making it impossible to use as a grill. The problem only started this morning. There's been no slow decline in efficiency etc. and no physical damage to the element that I can see - as I said, it's still heating when used as an oven.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance

There must be a switch in the door that allows the grill to function,it might be in the hinge area, if you google the make and model of the oven you might be able to locate the switch and test/replace.
Of course the grill element might be faulty and that is why it is not working.0 -
I used better lighting and found a bit of damage on the inner part of the element. I've changed elements before so should be an easy fix. Thanks for the help, Ganga!0
