Difference between a NIP (notice of intended prosecution) and a Section 172?

  • I am a new driver, got my driving license last month. Therefore I've received 2 NIP within 2 weeks for over speeding (35mph/30mph Cardiff town centre 02 February 2019 and 61mph/50mph Port Talbot M4 28 January 2018).

Am I gonna lose my driving license as they worth 6 points? Please advise if there is anyway I can save my driving license.
  • You should get one offer of a Speed Awareness Course which will avoid immediate revocation.

A speed awareness course is offered instead of points. You can only do one every 3 years. That will mean you can do a course for one offence and take 3 points for the other.

That is provided you don't try and play games avoiding both. Some people atttempt all sorts to get off, which may be a valid option in some case, but failure will see no offer of a course.

    Slow down.

    Yes but no....

There are a number of different speed awareness courses, i.e.

    - Standard
    - 20 MPH Zone
    - Smart Motorway

Having done one type is not a bar from being offered another of a different type.

And also by sticking to the one thread - there was no need for this new thread about the same incident.

They did pose that question in that thread but it was lost in posters trying to outdo each other in the holier than thou stakes. At least they've got an answer now.
