Iresa Strikes again!

Now the letter from the debt company on behalf of Deloite was £1418.87 for my old iresa account- this was quite a shock, after disagreeing with the bill and asking for workings out it has been agreed that there is an error on my bill in the calculations.

Cd Solutions Offing to fix the issue.....

just 20% off the incorrect total

This is not the correct way to deal with this issue!

All i want to see is the correct break down including the credits i have already paid on this account £895.56 (including a £30 credit from offgem) I have gone through my bank statements and there should be a total of £895.56 credited to the outstanding on this account.

It all goes quite from Cd Solutions....

Anyone else still having issues with old Iresa bills??

I have also received a letter from Deloitte informing me I owe £301.47 to Corporate Debt Solutions for an outstanding Iresa debt.

Whilst I did almost sign up with them many moons ago, I cancelled within the cooling off period and went elsewhere after reading all the bad reviews. I thought that was the end of the matter and heard nothing else until Octopus tried to move me onto their accounts when Iresa went bust, then nothing else till today!

Having never received a bill, demands for payment or any other communication and having never supplied them with meter readings how can I suddenly be asked for over 300 quid by a debt collector?

Suggestions as to the best way to deal with this much appreciated.

Just remembered, in the contact from Octopus they stated 'We have a lot of work to do cleaning up Iresa's poorly managed accounts. It will take us several months to iron all the issues out'...... Speaks volumes I think.

Just posted this on another Iresa thread -
I left Iresa with a small credit balance when they went bust in July - just checked and I can still log in to the Iresa accounts pages, and see my balance, bills, meter readings etc. If you can remember your log in credentials this should be your first port of call:)
  • As an ex-Iresa customer, this news troubles me. Although I did phone up to confirm that my account had indeed been settled, I wouldn't put anything past them.

Who did you pay for your energy then?

Presumably you've got bills, statements meter readings and payment info for the supllier who did supply your energy during the period that you dispute.

I too have had a letter from Deloitte, however I have had help from the financial ombudsman last year, who got my account sorted, Now a letter saying I owe 253.96, when I spoke to CDS they advised that
Iresa had in fact been billing me incorrectly, my account is now being investigated by the debt agency,
but be warned if you contact them [Removed by Forum Team], who would not give her surname was very abrupt and could do with some customer service training, I asked for a break down of these extra charges and her reply was that they could not supply me with them and that I had to pay the debt, I am now talking with a [Removed by Forum Team] from Deloitte, who have been more than helpful and also sent proof that my account was a zero balance when I left Iresa fingers crossed this should be resolved soon

I think The Energy Ombudsman and/or Ofgem should be made aware of this, rather than each person having to deal with it separately. This thing would therefore be nipped in the bud before lots of others get caught up in it.

Are any of those affected willing to do this?

Thank you for this update. I left Iresa in Feb last year when moving house but never received a final bill so I've taken a screen shot of all the transactions on my Iresa account just in case I have been passed to the debt collectors.
  • Like many of you past Iresa users, I got that letter of 28 January and at first winced. I owed £986 when I thought I was all clear. My account had been passed to debt collectors and we all know what that means. I immediately wrote back to Deloittes( despite them asking for correspondence be sent to the debts collectors CDS.) This was because they had put their name to an incorrect and ludicrous figure and, by the way, how dare they refer me to a debt collector.

I also contacted Octopus, who despite promising a "final" Octopus statement, had not provided one. They replied with an alarming stament of our TOTAL useage since inception of the account minus total payments leaving- hurray- a credit balance. However what stood out from their workings? My total energy charge ( for two years) was identical to the penny with Deloittes claim! Those dozy people at Deloittes had somehow mixed up "charges" with " balance". These terms are hardly foreign to the public let alone an International firm of Accountants.

Here I must reveal my othe " interest" in this matter. I am a retired Chartered Accountant and am horrified to hear the current stories of audit failures behind subsequent big name company crashes. I believe it's got so bad recently that Government intervention is talked of. To add another big "!!!!-up" relating to an Administration would really stir the pot.

So, I mounted my high horse and challenged Deloittes about this. I got an email from Ms Harrison( can't check that, can't leave this post without losing everything so far!) believe it was Harrison. She said she would advise CDS and that in view of what I had said my account would be cleared. A subsequent email from her apologised to me but contained no admission of failure on her firms part or statement that ALL former Iresa customers would be getting an apology OR acknowledgment that her firm was in any way responsible for the subsequent distress and inconvenience of ALL iresa's customers. They had effectively told us all that we all owed for all the electricity bought from Iresa and would be ignoring everything we had paid during our time with them.

Now this is a major failure by an important firm of Accountants. I told them I knew I was flogging a dead horse when I asked for humility and restitution ( apology and explanatory letter to customers). So I told them I would be taking every opportunity to make it public that here was another firm of Accountants who had not only fallen on their faces but refused to acknowledge it. I would be grateful if this could be circulated as far and wide as possible and perhaps some newspaper could get wind of it and headline it to the wider public. As a former member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants I am sorry to do this but my opinion of this formerly august body dropped steadily over my years of membership. It is now dominated by the few big firms who you will not be surprised to know are capable of charging the highest fees irrespective of the quality of their work.

Thank you for highlighting that to them Kenbaugh1943. Would it be worth letting Ofgem and Octopus know how the Deloittes are producing their figures.

Same problem here - received the letter from Deloitte yesterday telling me I owe £152.03 based on outstanding balances on my Iresa account (closed in January 2018). According to my final bills and subsequent payments received from Iresa I calculate I am actually still owed £270 by Iresa - I've only just realised responsibility for repaying this now lies with Octopus energy so have raised a claim with them.

Unfortunately based on this thread I'm not optimistic I'll get a sensible response from Deloitte or CDS, but we'll see.

EDIT: Actually, I've just taken a look at my online account with Iresa following the suggestion above and it turns out they have charged me *twice* for the electricity used between Nov 17 and Feb 18. Unbelievable.

EDIT 2: For reference, I got a swift response from CDS who have dropped their claim. I'd supported it with my final bills plus bank statements showing my payments, which I guess helped.
