House Move - Change Insurance Policy - What Date?

Hello All,

Moving house in a week and going to change my home insurance policy to match the new address.

I am with Sainsbury's and you can easily change the address online and even better my premiums are actually going to go down. They are not even charging me an admin fee.

However I have to put what date I want the policy to change and don't know what to put down. We are moving out on the 13th so at first I thought to put that down but then that will mean my currently property is not insured in the morning, when I still technically own it.

If I choose the 14th to cover my current property that will mean my new address is not covered when I move into it.

Any thoughts?

Your solicitor should have advised you that your new property needed to be insured from the date of the exchange of contracts, most insurance companies will allow an overlap to cover both properties until completion.
