Good luck with sorting out the roof. Hope the vet bills aren't too high either.

  • Always so many bills ! At least you are tracking your spends so you are aware of the black holes. Hope the cat is OK

I finally did clean out the freezer and now i am trying to stock it back up ;))  Argh.. At least I can see into it - there was so much WOE is this  ;) I am travelling loads so trying to ensure I have healthy things like frozen veg, fruit and chops etc when I come back so I dont have to rush straight back out to the shops on my returns.

Fussy kids drive me mad - my sisters kids were terrible but now grown out mostly of that stage though one will only eat thick sausages and the other chipolatas so its easy to manage... so hopefully they  will grow thru this phase quick.
    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

  • Hi, have read through your diary and the overpayments have always been so impressive. No matter what, you have always made the money work for you. Hope you can get support with DS, and if not, that the hours changing do the trick.

Thanks all. Sorry for being missing in action things have been up and down recently, but the Christmas holidays are in sight so hopefully we can all have a rest then.

I'm really looking forward to Christmas. We went to some winter lights last night and it was magical. I love Christmas lights  :) we have nearly finished our Christmas shopping for the kids but I've not started on DS or my family. We have probably spent more than intended on the kids but we're not getting into debt so I'm not going stress too.

I've made our overpayment of £100 for December and put another £200 in a regular saver. Our overpayment total for 2023 is £3288 and there's another £600 in the regular saver earmarked for overpayment next year when the account matures. Really happy with that  :)

Sounds like you are making good progress despite Xmas and other expenses. I love coloured lights. I'd be happy to have them up all year.

  • I’m the same a little with Christmas. Yes I probably spend more than intended but I don’t go into debt for it.

  • I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas. We had a nice day with family visiting (Christmas dinner tasted fab even if I do say so myself  :) ) and the kids were happy with their presents. Not been up to much this week as weather is rubbish. I did do a little bit of sales shopping but I've been more restrained this year and only brought things I will definitely use and wanted to try. Right I'm off to build some Lego  :)

Well our mortgage overpayment plans are getting off to a slow start for 2024 as we have had some hefty bills to content with. In Jan we overpaid £105 but we haven't managed any this month. Looking at the credit card bill we won't be making an overpayment in March either  :'( On the plus side my DS has had his Dyslexia assessment and that has shown that he is indeed dyslexic so hopefully we can looking at supporting him better. He has been really unhappy going into school this week so we are all looking forward to half term next week...although I'm still working so no break for me. Just got to think of a cheep and cheerful trip out for this weekend to get everyone out the house. We are now fed up of trips to our local national trust places so we need to think of new options, but everything seems to cost £££. We had been toying with a visit to the zoo but the bank account balance doesn't look that healthy so maybe not.

Good your DS has had his assessment - hopefully now school will put in place the help he needs.

Well done on the OP. It may not be your desired amount but it is more than the vast majority manage.
