Is a letter from my GP sufficient as proof of my anxiety issues?

I was told by my work coach that I would be best to get my GP to give me a sick note so I get some leeway from the jobcentre regarding my work search. I have been doing a lot of work searching and been filling in my journal, but I told my work coach that due to my father being ill for a few months, I've been looking after him and it's been stressing me out along with job searching so much.
My anxiety has been very high and I've been getting overly stressed and suffering with panic attacks. I have suffered from anxiety disorder for years now, but since I've been on UC (since November) it's been difficult to do lots of job searching along with focusing on my dad's poor health.
Anyway, I got a letter from my GP to say I've been suffering from anxiety and I'm on medication for it. The work coach said I would need to pop into job centre to hand the note in, but wondering if a letter is sufficient. That is good enough evidence, right?

Has your GP also given you a Statement if Fitness for Work (Fit Note). This is the form the DWP would usually recognise.
Does your father get any benefits?Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0

No my GP hasn't given me one of those. She was gonna write me a letter or note (not sure which as gotta go pick it up tomorrow). My work coach just said to get a letter or note from my GP to explain I'm diagnosed with anxiety and on medication.
No my dad isn't on benefits.0

A fit note is otherwise known as a sick note and this is what you need from your GP and not just a letter.0

If the Work Coach has said to get a letter or a note from the GP and then refused to accept it because it isn't an official Fit Note the OP would have every justification in being extremely hacked off. That said, there would be only one winner if the OP did kick up a fuss, and it wouldn't be the OP.0
