RICS Building Survey Cost

Options
Hi, I'm after a little bit of advice on what a typical RICS building survey might cost and hoping people have some experience to share!

I'm aware these can greatly range in price, however I've been quoted everything from £500 through £1200. I'm really struggling to identify what's too cheap and what's about right. Im also struggling with finding reviews of the individual companies.

The house is located down south and is a fairly typical semi detached style and size. There is nothing particularly worrying about the house, but would rather have any extra detail the buildings survey may pick up over the home buyer's report.

Thanks

First, it depends what kind of survey? Condition? Homebuyers? Building? See RICS website

Next, a cheap online Homebuyers can be £350 upwards, but don't expect a personal service.

I paid £650 recently for a Homebuyers, but well worth the extra as
    * I got the survey tailored to focus on issues I had (eg planned to knock down walls and want to know load-bearig or not) and to ignore things I didn't care about
    * I got lots of access to the surveyor afterwards, by email and by phone, to clarify issues he raised and to ask supplementary questions.
  • I had a full building survey done on a 4 bedroom Victorian terrace in York last year for £975 all in. Well worth it.
