Fake ISP phone call scam

Had a phone call this afternoon from someone (with an American accent) who said she was from my Internet Service Provider - her actual words, she didn't say the name of my ISP. It appeared to be a recorded message, telling me that my router and internet connection had been used for illegal activities all over the world. (Didn't think that was possible). I only got as far as hearing her say I should press key 1 to speak to one of their operatives, when I hung up. So obviously a scam. I did a 1471 on the number, if it helps - it was 01784 264314.
New one on me, but thought I'd better post it.

This one has been going for a year, maybe longerIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

American computer voice with a spoofed number or Karen from TalkTalk with an Indian accent. All scams. The worst is that the TT ones often call me by name, obviously still have the data that was hacked from TT when I was a customer. Telling them to !!!! off helps me cope, if their delicate lady like ears don't like it they can stop calling me0

Best way to deal with these scammers is I blow a whistle down the phone with every ounce of strength I have. Much more satisfying than swearing at them.0

A bit pointless with a recorded message0 -
The ones I get aren't recorded; they're usually Indian with an implausible English name0

I usually have lots of my fault accidents where I am the only fatality (apologies to those who have lost people in road accidents). The number of times they continue on not listerning to what I'm saying.May you find your sister soon Helli.

The most effective way to deal with scam telephone calls is not to answer an unrecognised number.
Important? They'll leave a message. Unwanted? They'll either hang up or leave a message which you can ignore.
Answer it and you'll go on yet another list of "live" numbers which is then sold on to the next would-be scammer.0 -

Thing is a lot aren’t scammers, just people with no money doing a crappy job to get by.
Just hang up and block the number. Going to the effort of grabbing a whilstle and blowing it just to make some persons life a misery? What’s the point...
Hang up. Block. Job done.0 -

I'd do that if I could but we hardly use the land line so we only have a basic package, no call identifier, no message-leaving option, no blocking facility. As this is the first such call I've had in about two years, I shan't worry too much. We are registered with the TPS which helps. I just take the attitude of not believing anyone who rings on that number as I don't generally give it out. I just wanted people to be aware of the scam, which, it seems, you all are!I can't imagine a life without cheese. (Nigel Slater)0 -
They keep coming back don't they. Only problem with blocking the number is they reappear on a different number a couple of days later.
Best simply ignored if you have caller ID and don't recognise number.0
