self storage companies-extra compulsory cost

I don't know if i'm just being pedantic but I recently enquired about storing some items with Big Yellow self storage. They gave me a quote but then added insurance. I advised them that the items were of little financial worth and I didn't need the insurance. They advised me it was compulsory.
Firstly they sell themselves on being very secure then force you to take insurance.
Surely if the insurance is compulsory it should be integrated into the initial quote.
Just wondering if anyone has ever successfully challenged them?
Rant over:D
