I've had an email this morning to say that my Sainsburys Energy contract will no longer be with SE but instead will be British Gas. I know that it was always BG in the background but am just curious as to why Sainsburys are doing this. Is it all Sainsburys contracts, and are they coming out of energy field altogether?

OFGEM are to blame for the demise of Sainsburys Energy.. Used as BG s no frills supplier they offered some of the cheapest tariffs in the UK in their day but with the big difference of a back up by BGs hugely staffed call centres and customer service and quarterly meter readings for those who needed it. I read meters for BG and Sainsburys and used to spend half my day advising loyal BG customers to switch their accounts to the much cheaper Sainsburys tariffs and retain their quarterly meter reading visits which many OAP s valued.
Ofgem stopped "white label " suppliers offering cheaper tariffs than the parent company.. This marked the start of the end for Sainsburys Energy.
Now when we sign up for the cheapest tariffs the suppliers,( those that don t go bust quickly ) call centres are virtually unstaffed leading to hours waiting on the phone, unanswered emails and a poor overall service.0
