Sorting out photos

Part of my New Year resolution was to sort out my digital photo collection.

As Apple has folded Aperture (it hates competition) I thought of getting Lightroom. At £120 it seems reasonably priced till I noticed that that was for a non-optional yearly rental. As such Adobe can go jump off a cliff.

Anyone recommend a similar alternative?

Will be looking at Capture One Pro.
Thanks

What are you actually trying to do? Sort out is a bit vague.

If you just want them in some organised order, I don't think you need Lightroom - that's an editing program.

LR is a photo editing and organisation programme.

Capture One Pro is expensive and not so hot at organisation. DO you want editing capabilities or just image organisation functions?

Not interested in taking part in surveillance capitalism. My data is worth a lot more than the 79p pm that iCloud costs. It's excellent value for money.

You can decide for yourself whether you think your personal data is worth less than 79p pm.
