Any suggestions?

I'm struggling.
My girlfriend and I are planning a holiday in 2020 for my 30th birthday but we don't know where to go.
We want sun and relaxation with a nice hotel. I would also like a place with cultural things/trips to do and a town/city to dress up and go out for dinner in the evening.
Ideally outside of Europe. Been to Dubai, America and Mexico. Would like Asia but my girlfriend is a little hesitant about moving about during a holiday. We did consider Bali but Seminyak, Ubud and Gili T was off putting due to moving.
So, yes, any suggestions please?

What's the objection to moving around?Evolution, not revolution0

What time of year are you thinking of going? Rough budget?
Asia is really, really easy to travel around, so don’t let the literal moving around put you off Asia. If it’s the packing/unpacking that is offputting how about doing day trips around Bali as it’s not a big place?Save £12k in 2019 #360 -
You've been to America? I've been to America a couple of dozen times but I haven't seen half of it yet.
What about the Caribbean?Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0 -
Hi All,
My girlfriend feels moving around would take away the feeling of being fully relaxed knowing you have to pack up again in a few days.
January- June to suit the climate of place we choose. Budget is flexible but ideally 1500pp +/-10% bed and breakfast plus spending money for dinner, drinks and excursions.
America was a very sweeping statement apologies. Done Vegas, Orlando and California road trip separately. Would love to do deep south road trip but not in our budget. Caribbean would be nice but hotels don't look fantastic for the price paid. Most all in too. Would both do it for the right place, though.0 -
Try Penang. It's your money. Except if it's the governments.0

A cruise with several Ports of Call. At sea by night, and then a glimpse of somewhere different every day usually between 0800-1800.
Usually with a little planning it's easy to sort out your own day excursions, or if you've got the money join in one of the many excursions offered by the ship.
No need to unpack and pack every few days, or waste time travelling between destinations.
Have a look at Marella Cruises, which used to be Thomson. Tips are included, and the price you see is the price you pay.0 -
Have you thought about Sri Lanka there maybe some travel but believe me the train ride is definitely worth it! A couple of nights in Colombo to see the city, I can’t say about night life though. Then travel along the coast a bit beautiful coast some great places to stay (I hostelled it) you can always spend the rest of the time at the beach or you can travel up into the mountains to see the rice fields and to Ella in the centre mind blowing! I was only there for a around a week and mor interested in diving but you can go and stay at the national park for the elephantsThanks to money saving tips and debt repayments/becoming debt free I have been able to work and travel for the last 4 years visiting 12 countries and working within 3 of them. Currently living and working in Canada  :dance:0

Can't understand the point of going abroad and NOT moving around. If you don't actually see anything other than the pool or the view from your balcony, you might just as well go to an all-in on the Isle of Wight. (Beautiful, yes, and I love the IofW, but you don't have to go far).
A cruise as suggested round the Med(?) is the best choice I should think.0 -
Penang is an interesting one.
I've always been a bit out of by cruises - not sure they appeal to my customer group but I could be tempted, particularly if around the Caribbean. I'll look in to Marella.
I have considered Sri Lanka but not sure where to start. Weather looks questionable too.
Lady Dee- I'm not saying we won't leave the hotel and experience local culture but that a base in one town/city/location is preferred so your example is quite ridiculous.
We are going to look in to Bangkok and Phuket (3/4 nights then 10 nights). Can probably get away with that move.0 -
+1 for Penang, seems to tick all of your boxes. If it's your 30th I definitely would avoid a cruise, give it another 20 years and maybe!0
