Setting up as a Commercial Mole Catcher
Options
I've recently become quite adept at trapping moles around my own premises so im wondering if it might be a profitable side line for me to offer my services as a mole catcher.
Does anyone here happen to know what formalities are required for me to do this? Although they are pests I guess there are animal welfare restrictions that would be involved.
Would be interested to know if anyone here could point me in the right direction.

Is it a field you are interested in? There's quite a mountain to climb to make a business out of it, even as a sideline. You might need to burrow some money to set up in the first place... but I dig where you are coming from...
Poor puns aside, there may be quite a limited, seasonal market, and travelling costs will eat into any return. There certainly are - quite complex - regulations if you are doing any of this for profit, and even were you to do live capture, you'd still have disposal problems. You can't just release them.
Around here, it's part of the pest control services, so unless you are also covering rats, mice, wasps, hornets.... you might struggle.0 -
And I thought this was going to degrade into the Monty Python lion taming sketch - or maybe some allusions to Colin Mozart. So hopefully I'm doing the OP a favour by getting that out of the way now.
If the OP has a particularly humane method (I'm thinking tea & cake as opposed to lump hammer & sack) then maybe that would satisfy a niche in the market. I guess some kind of registration with the local council might be required too
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?0 -
... unfortunately, although humane traps exist - and work, I use them - it's actually against regulations to release once captured.... OK, probably not a problem for the amateur mole-wrangler like me, but as a commercial activity... and I don't think mole pie has moles in it!0
