Whizz Air seating policy

I thought I ought to let you know about the Whizz Air seating policy.

My wife and I travelled to/from Budapest for a few days. Mini-honeymoon but all we could afford/fit in around work.

We are flying home today. Despite both tickets purchased at the same time, and checking in at the same time (same booking). We were seated apart.

We asked at the bag drop if there was space and one of us could move so we could sit together and were told bluntly "this is a budget airline, you have to pay if you want to sit together".

So it seems, that we were deliberately separated. What a rubbish policy. I felt compelled to share so that decent people can avoid this airline in future.

Hope this helps.
Brian

For what it's worth, my wife is 5months pregnant and showing heavily.

  • So you didnt pre-book them?

In which case you take the chance. This is the same with all budget airlines and even with some of the flag carriers now. There may not have been 2 seats left together anyway, was the flight full or nearly full?

This thread is hardly breaking news.

    Just like Ryanair.

You can look around for spare seats once you have boarded, or even see if anyone is willing to swap.

I do have to say that sitting together for a couple of hours, or sitting separately and doing some reading, is usually no big deal.

there should have been no surprises - you decided that sitting together was not worth paying for so you got randomly allocated seats as they state
"If you decide not to book a seat in advance, we will assign you one randomly during check-in, 48 hours before your flight departure."
the allocated seats will come from the seats that have not already been prepaid by other passengers - at 48 hours before the flight there could have been very few seats unallocated as other people are happy to pay to be able to sit together

I do get your frustration, however it is advertised exactly as they have acted.
not sure what your wife being pregnant means - she still had a seat, however If it was important for you to sit together then paying would have been the only way to guarantee that - if everyone else has paid and picked their seats, then priority will be given to them.

I love it when these threads pop up. People think this is brand new info, yet its common knowledge amongst everyone anyway and nobody actually cares anymore.

Oh and point of pedantry - the airline is called "Wizz Air"

When your wife is pregnant and you are on a mini honeymoon, yet £5 each is too much to pre book to sit together, then disappointment was almost guaranteed.

As per the other responses, this is now the norm for virtually all airlines. I travelled to and from Edinburgh on an internal BA flight with my adult son and OH, we were seated in 3 separate rows in different parts of the airline in both directions. I travel a lot and always have to pay for seats together, regardless of the airline - that was the first time I hadn't bothered as the flight was so short it didn't matter.

Wife is ‘5 months pregnant and showing heavily’, it was a mini-honeymoon trip away - yet you were too tight to pay a few extra quid to guarantee seats together on the plane. Hope your wife gave you hell.

    Sympathy cup is empty.
  • is there an option to pay more so you don't have to sit next to your wife? Asking for a friend...
