Videos either momentarily freeze or buzz

Options
HP Envy laptop, W10 64bit, 8gb memory, 128gb ssd, with 1tb hdd, with much space left on both. Audio is Bang & Olufsen.

Whichever player, VLC, Media Player Classic, SM Player, at intermittent parts of an MP4 video it will stutter, faintly buzz, or as last night completely stop and I had to force close down as even Ctrl-Alt-Delete wouldn't come up and machine froze.

Have up to date drivers, have run HP extensive 7 hour hardware diagnostics - all passed.

Any ideas?
You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

Thanks for that. I'm trawling through all the error and warning messages but it's like a minefield with so many options and volumes of reading. I'll probably go back to one of my macrium reflect images and see if that does it.

  • where are these mp4 files stored? The internet? A NAS? your hard drive? could be a network issue.

On my hd so it's not a network problem

Anyway, I restored an earlier macrium image and so far so good the problem seems to have been resolved.

    Thanks for your time guys.,

I found out the culprit, I think. Last night M$ did a sneeky update even though I've set things up (I thought) to not auto install. When I came back from cooking it had done its dastardly deed. Upon rebooting the graphic problem returned. So I deleted the update and now all is well. I also set things up properly to not allow updates to install via 'services'.
