Building insurance, 2 kitchens

Hi
I'm.hoping someone can offer some help/advice here.
We've had a bit of a home disaster with a broken toilet upstairs and water going everywhere and need to claim on our insurance but just had a thought and unsure if we're going to inadvertently void our insurance when the assessor comes out...
When we bought the house, from a family member, they had converted the original kitchen diner into a little granny flat for my grandad.
Kitchen/living area and bedroom and separate bathroom and added a new extension for a kitchen for the rest of the house.
We are in the process of converting it back and have already put the flat bedroom back into a dining room for us.
The flat kitchen and living area and bathroom remain.
It has been like this for the past year and we've been using the space for junk until we got round to sorting it.
Fast forward to last Christmas and bro in law was made homeless for what was meant to be 3 weeks until his house purchase completed, so we let him stay with us and put a bed in the living area of the flat as we have no spare bedrooms and so he could have some space.
Any way... 2 months later he's still there as his house purchase hadn't completed yet.
He uses our kitchen and eats with us etc but it appears otherwise...
Any way... now I'm worried when the assessor comes out he's gonna think we have a permanent lodger or something in a sort of self contained flat and I'm not sure if that's allowed??
The water damage is to the ceiling of the dining room and there is a door to the 'flat'.
Does anyone know is this going to be a problem? And what can we do?
Thanks
