    I never applied to get child benefit for any of my 4, didnt think it was appropriate because of my husbands wage. Really was a PITA as well when it came time for national insurance numbers, if you get Child benefit they are generated automatically, if you try and do good and not take money for the sake of taking money they you have to apply for those national insurance numbers, jump through hoops to prove your child is who they say s/he is, then they have a 1 on 1 interview and get grilled like a criminal. Yes i know they need to make sure, but it makes you feel like no good deed goes unpunished..
