Boiler Warranty

I had a 'Main Eco Elite' boiler fitted 3 year ago (Dec 2015) by a friend. He said that the warranty that came with it was 5 year. Just before Xmas it started loosing a little bit of pressure now and again and I had to keep topping it up. Ive been keeping my eye on it and this past week it has got worse. When I rang Baxi, I was told that actually I only have a 3 year warranty and it ran out in December. I rang my friend and after checking his logs, he confirmed that it was only 3 year warranty and they only started giving 5 year warranty in April 2016. I called rang Legal and General for Home Emergency (Max £500) and they came out today. Ive been under the impression that I have a leak under my floor and was ready to start looking. My boiler actually needed the expansion vessel topping up, but I told the plumber that it was loosing pressure from somewhere else..... to cut a long story short Ive found out that the heat exchanger is leaking into the condenser pipe. There is no way this should happen after only 3 year as it's very expensive to replace.
My question is, I know for a fact that the pressure loss started before the warranty ran out, but how could I prove this, and should they honour the warranty for this issue that really shouldn't happen after only 3 year. Where do I stand?

If you have no documentory evidence of a fault occurring within the warranty period, then you have no claim against the manufacture's warranty.
You may however have a claim under your consumer rights against the retailer, however you would need to prove the fault was inherent in the boiler when it was purchased.0 -
Do you have a receipt for the fitting of the boiler and is/was your friend Gas Safe registered at the time? and who actually made the purchase of the boiler, you or your friend?
If you go down the legal route with your consumer rights, you may need to prove that the installation was carried out by someone qualified to do the work.0 -
