                    Hi Guys,
My G & E is coming to an end soon & on their monthly bill they "estimate" next year I will use:
Electric - 6286
Gas - 20123
Now online they have a monthly usage where it is actual use that i have been keeping an eye on, this gives me roughly
Electric - 4000
Gas - 12000
Now surely they should be estimating going off last years actual usage so no idea how they come up with this. this isn't really like petrol in a car & wondering how many miles you may do, surely each year is going to be quite similar, (cold snaps allowing)
In the Cheap Energy Club this equates to around £45pm difference
What would you lot do, or am I missing something in my usage to what they are estimating?
Cheers, Shane

I never look at an estimated usage .
Key for me is the actual unit price and daily standing charge .0
-
I always use my last year's actual annual usage in kWh when comparing prices.
I will sometimes increase the gas by 10% to see if the tariffs offered change.0

            I'm struggling with that.
Been trying to get an annual statement from AVRO for over a month now but only reply I can get from them is "they know there is a problem & they are working on it"
Doesn't help me getting an exact figure lol0

But it will only be an exact figure for the past and not the future .
I just use average consumption then look at the actual prices .0

I would contact the supplier and ask them to either update the estimated annual usage based on what you have used over the last 10-11 months at least, or otherwise explain why they are assume you will use the amopunt they estimate.
Please come back and post the explanation if given 0 0

            Will do,
Phone call in to them & I'll let you know what they say0

If you have cause for complaint, and it seems you do, then follow the supplier's complaint procedure.
Based on the information you provided previously this is not something that needs working on, but something that can be reviewed and advised on immediately.
Meanwhile, you should use the best figures available to you to carry out any comparison on a comparison site.0

Read your own meter, do your own sums, keep your own records and take control yourself rather than hoping that the supplier's is doing it for you.
I've been reading my meter once a month for the past 9 years and keeping a spreadsheet with the info on it so I have an average annual and monthly consuption figure which is what I use when negotiating my energy deals.
I dont rely on bills, estimates or guesses or even hopes that the supplier's website is accurate either. I check and confirm that the DD is is in line with my own calculations to ensure that the supplier's don't fabricate fantasy amounts.
Obviously some years or months are a bit less or more than my average but I have a really good idea what my consumption & cost will be every month.
Unless it's a really cold or hot year I'm usually within +/- £20-£30 of balancing at the end of the year.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0

When I was last with a "big 6" supplier ,they came up with nonsense annual usage figures. The gas figure they quoted was actually higher than any of the previous 6 years and the electric prediction was about 12% less than the previous two years!
As I was on my way out of their grip, I didn't bother to query it - but I have no idea where they got their numbers from -unless it was the Sinclair Spectrum which (mis) calculated required DDs:rotfl:0

 Don't waste your time.
Spend your time doing your own sums - work out your own actual for the last 12 months; construct a simple spreadsheet to keep your own records.
SSE did the same to me - ridiculous consumption and cost prediction. All it did was to concentrate my mind.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0
