Hello all
Long time lurker who has found this forum beneficial and the people on it to be knowledgeable and helpful. Need some help on this topic but now that I have joined, I hopefully will get the opportunity to give some of my (limited) knowledge and experience wherever i can help.
We bought a new house and have an existing wired Scantronic alarm system with wired sensors. Although it is directly hardwired into the consumer unit, it is currently completely dead and so we are looking to get it replaced BUT using the existing wiring and sensors.
We have had a number of quotes for the following:
- Removal of old keypad and installation of new one
- Removal of old control panel and installation of new one
- Repair of magnetic door contact
- Repair of existing panic button
- 2 new wireless detectors (internal)
- 1 new wireless sensor (external for garden)
- App and subscription
All five other sensors are reused and will be replaced at extra cost if needed. Brand will be Pyronix or Risco.
The quotes are around the £1000 mark including VAT and 1 year's maintenancewhich seems high to me as they are reusing all existing wiring, and using existing sensors. I expected a hybrid system to come in cheaper than a new wired system and as competitive as a new wireless system. Noting that I have to pay London weighting on this as I am inside the M25.
Is this quote fair in your opinion? Any feedback would be much appreciated.
I know self install of a wireless Yale etc system would be much cheaper, but as it is wired, I would prefer the professional installation.
