This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Good morning all

Hope you are all are still asleep warm and cosy.

Went to see mother yesterday, don't know what to think.

Initially she didn't speak, I asked if she would like her cake and she nodded her head, ate the cake and the usual silence (eyes closed) for an hour, but as we left she said 'thank you for coming' which was a pleasant surprise. I know she is old, but up until a couple of years ago she looked quite a lot younger than her age but now she looks like an old lady, which I know she is.

Went to L*ld yesterday, don't go there often, bought a large piece of cheese on offer, hope it tastes ok and some hot smoked salmon reduced to 70p, very pleased.

Please your dgd is doing well DP1

Thoughts are with everyone finding life difficult.

    Take care all

Morning silver O and all to come :)

silver maybe your mum is starting to realise all you do for her and dare i say appreciating you. Either that or she has got wind of the chara leaving for the coven soon :D Enjoy the cheese and salmon yum

Up early today to get myself together for my trip to Brighton. Really glad I'm not driving as the car is a block of ice again ...as am I. Its swings and roundabouts though as I have a lot of hanging around time at the train changes but i think thats better than a ridiculously long drive in icy conditions. I will let you know how much i am missing my car later :rotfl:

Once I get there the plan is to chill tonight and do some prep but if the weather is OK then I will take myself a walk on the front and maybe the pier ....I will hunt out some penny machines :j There for 2 nights so time for more exploring tomorrow

Food wise I will make some train gastronomy after this as I am not a lover of their food offerings. probably ham and salad with some soreen and crisps :o After that who knows the hotel is really expensive to eat in so need to explore other options.

Hope you all have a fun sunday or a very laid back one

    Morning everyone

Silver-oldie - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, snow now disappearing but yesterday developed into a beautiful clear blue sky but cold day, so we've had a hard frost again overnight, so it'll be icy underfoot, temperature set to raise during this morning - we'll see.

DH and myself enjoying first peaceful cuppas, both boys still in their pits.

Dinner last night was hot chicken wings, hot HM med veg tart, scotch egg, pork pie, side salad, skinny chips and coleslaw, ice cream, cake for dessert. Today we'll be having roast pork, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, swede (me), peas, yorkshires and gravy.

Yesterday we went to visit the parents, my parents were walking up the road as we arrived having a walk out, DH's parents were in their usual position in front of the tv, we stayed with them for an hour or so, we left once the rugby finished so we could get home and be ready to watch the England match, good game and result for us.

I hadn't slept very well the night before so went to bed early and have slept for 12 hours, so obviously needed it.

I'll crack on with the lunch prep soon, and once that's done the pack ups for tomorrow, then have a chilled day.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks SILVER-OLDIE.

It's another cold one and the sun yesterday made little impression on the lying snow. The sky is a lovely shade of red is that a bad sign? Not going anywhere so the weather can do what it wants.

The house next door has been up for sale since our old neighbour died. In fact it's been empty since he first went in the nursing home 2 years ago but his son only put it up for sale in December. I haven't noticed much interest in it until yesterday. I have got used to the peace and quiet and am dreading someone noisy buying it. My DD's next door neighbour moved and rented his house out to a family with numerous children and 3 dogs and one of the dogs barks continuously when it's left alone. It drives her mad!

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for all the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Take care all xx

    Morning everyone

I do wish it would start to warm up. I woke up cold during the night which is unusual for me and had to put a throw on top of the duvet.

I keep forgetting to bring things in from the freezer in the outhouse and having to go back out in the cold. I’m going to make a list of everything I need from out there this morning and make sure I get it in one go.

Sadly my elderly neighbour (95) who I went with to the seaside for days out last summer because she has balance problems and needs someone with her, won’t be able to go this year because her balance has got so much worse and she had a fall at home just after Christmas. I will give some thought to what I can do to enable her to get out a little bit with me.

Today I’m going to have a day off from housework and spend it reading and watching TV. I’m just going to have a salmon fillet with veg for dinner, so that will need very little prep.

Take care everyone and have the best Sunday you can x
  • Good idea re the list HOLLY. I have both freezers in the garage and it's so cold out there this weather. I should get everything in one go instead of forever popping in and out!

NELS we had a day in Brighton two years ago whilst staying in Eastbourne. We had lunch in an authentic little Italian place in the lanes. It was so good. I can't remember the name so that's not a lot of help to you!

Morning everyone and thanks for the start SO I’m glad that your DM at least acknowledged your visit yesterday.

Thick frost and perishingly cold but bright sun, I have prepped and put a piece of beef brisket in the SC so that’s lunch sorted at least.
I didn’t feel so good yesterday with bad sinus pain but much better today thankfully and I do need to get over to see my horse as missed yesterday, that’s the good thing about being on livery rather than DIY.
Will keep fingers crossed that you get some decent neighbours TA
    Look after yourself Holly.
Safe journey Nelski and hope you find somewhere good to eat.

Have a good day folks x

    Good morning everyone :hello:
Goodness me it's chilly here, the heating will be going on in a minute that's for sure. I went to bed around 2.30ish and managed to sleep till 7.30 which is a record for me at the moment. I certainly feel better for it too.

Steve has got up and made me a cup of tea before feeding the animals. Phoebe had to be in work for 6am so we shall see her later. Lilly stayed out at a party last night and Lee is still fast asleep so it's pretty quiet here at the moment.

We are having cottage pie for dinner tonight with a much veg as I can get on my plate as it has been a bit lacking these past couple of days. There is lots of fruit to eat up too so that will be my treat.

Nothing terribly exciting has been happening here, I am just chugging along. Oh, my sister is trying to force me to have a big birthday celebratory meal at a restaurant in the next town but the more I think about it the more stressed I become. My birthday isn't until April so I think I have decided to have an open house that day and just provide tea and cakes for anyone who would like to come and see me. I have a little while to think about it.

I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Good morning everyone.

The sound of rain hitting the windows woke me up, so it must be milder today. Let's hope it lasts.

I had a quiet evening when I arrived home yesterday. My lovely neighbour called in as he was passing by. As he had his young son with him the visit was extra nice. The boy is aged eight and very polite, he sat under my electric throw reading his new book.

No plans for today :j there's still plenty of home made soup and I roasted some pork last night, that'll be fine for later.

The mild and wet weather means very dull cloudy skies, no more bright cold sunshine.

I hope everyone is doing well or getting better. Perhaps 'doing well' is the best to expect.

    Happy Sunday to all.

Morning everyone. My bathroom floor is still glittery. I will have to mop it today I only did it yesterday When Tesco is open I will go and do the shopping I didn’t get there yesterday. We did go into town and picked up stuff for tea so I didn’t bother but will have to go this morning. I also need to sort the washing out and hang the last bit to dry. Later we are going to the cinema to see How to train your dragon 3 so will enjoy that.
