EU Warranty on electrical items

I purchased a Siemans Combi microwave in March 2015 for £998. The warranty has expired and the microwave part of the oven has stopped working.
Does anyone know what my rights would be under EU legislation? It reads to me that if a reasonable person considers that for the price that I paid it should not have broken down in under 4 years? I think I am right in saying that I should go directly to the retailer for recompense? Does anyone know the answer please?

    Aren't your rights under U.K. law more relevant than the EU legislation?

    Forget the so-called EU warranty, the legislation covering your rights in the UK (assuming this is where you purchased your oven) is the Sale of Goods Act (SOGA), and yes your contract is with the seller so therefore they are the ones you should be talking to.
  • I think you'll struggle after nearly four years. The onus is on you to prove the fault was inherent at the time of purchase, which would seem very unlikely if you've been using it without problems for so long. You would need to arrange an independent inspection to prove this, the cost of which you could recover if the fault was deemed to have been inherent.
