Capquest & default date

Options
Hi :-)

After a financial rough patch a few years ago I've been keeping an eye on my credit score via Clearscore and Experian over the last year or so. Although there seems to be a really wide variation between them (Clearscore has me as low but improving while Experian has me as very good) things have been slowly but surely improving.

Having seen Noddle mentioned on here a few times I decided to sign up to it last week. They have two defaults registered against me, which isn't entirely unexpected but not mentioned at all with Experian, and a CCJ. One of the defaults is listed as Capquest, as is the CCJ but for a different, slightly lower amount.

What I was wondering was - the default date is recorded as something like December 2015 which appears to be the date that Capquest took over the debt. Wouldn't the default date have been the date that the original debtor defaulted me? Is this standard procedure or do Capquest do this to fiddle the dates so they can keep it open for longer? Should I just leave it alone now and let it run it's course? The only reason this is annoying me is that I have an opportunity to invest an inheritance left by my mother and was looking at a buy to let that my mother in law could move into.

Yes, the default date should be when you originally defaulted rather than when they took over the debt.

You need to write to them and get them to correct it but be wary about acknowledging the debt, a common trick for DCAs is to state incorrect default dates in order to get people to inadvertently acknowledge debts and reset the clock.
