    I just got a house close to my mother so I can try to live independently as possible.


    As you now have a place of your own, your living costs are going to be increased so you really should claim everything you are entitled to. I do understand your logic when you say that you have enough trouble handling money now, without having more to worry about, but there are ways to legitimately safeguard the money if you aren't spending it.
