Adding extra electrical socket

I'm considering having an extra socket added to one of my bedrooms (I will be getting an electrician to do the work). There's laminate flooring in the bedroom, which I want to keep. Will this need to be lifted for the work to be done, and is it easy to do this without damaging the flooring?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

You could go along the top of the skirting boards and fit a nice channeling over the wireIf I ruled the world.......0

Ask him to use micro trunking along the top of the skirting boards. Very unobtrusive and far easier than removing flooring, so therefore more cost effective.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

Depends on the current set-up and the detail of the job.
If you want the new sockets right next to the old ones: easy.
Otherwise the cable has to run somewhere - typical options are to pin to the top of the skirting, run in plastic cable route, or hide in plaster/behind plaster board/under floorboards. .Decluttering awards 2025: 🏅🏅🏅🏅⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️, DH: 🏅🏅⭐️, DD1: 🏅 and one for Mum: 🏅0 -
or of course some in from the next room from behind if that's an option.0

It will be on a different wall. I want to be able to have a bedside lamp, without having an extension lead. There's a lamp post directly outside the window and I want blackout curtains, but think it could be a little dangerous without any lighting being accessible from the bed.3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -

It shouldn't be a problem running a new spur from an existing socket and chasing the new cabling into the wall - visible cables or trunking just look cheap in my opinion.
Are the walls painted or is this high-end wallpaper we're talking about? The cost to redecorate afterwards would vary enormously.0 -
Probably channel the wall socket if you want to avoid lifting flooring.Ex forum ambassador
