Post from previous occupant. Bills/fines etc

I've owned my house since September. We are constantly getting post for the previous owner and the two lodgers they had. I've been sending it all back marked addressee gone away/No longer at this address etc but now it seems some of the letters look like fines, payment reminders.

I'm worried they will send bailiffs round. Especially if its when my wife is home alone as she will panic. She suffers with anxiety so this is not good for her!

Is there anything else I can do other than just returning them unopened?

    I'd open them and phone whoever the sender is.

    Do you have a forwarding address?
    Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
    Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

    No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

    Did you mean for instead of from?

    No not for the lodgers. I do for the old owners though.

    For goodness sake.It's not you post/not your problem.

    Either
    * bin it
    * forward it
    * return to sender
    according to your mood

    As for bailiffs, if you/she are concerned, keep a photocopy of your property Title and ID by the door. show to any bailiff to prove you are not the debtor they seek.

    Sorted.
  • We had bailiffs show up for the previous tenant of our house. Showed him a copy of my tenancy agreement and not heard from them since. I phoned a couple of the companies to say they don't live here. All easy to sort

    Return to sender once then use the bin and don't worry about bailiffs.
    It's nothing , not nothink.

    I second this. Had to do the same thing when the previous tenant skipped out. She was being chased for unpaid council tax, TV license, bank overdraft charges and numerous other debts.

    Had two different bailiffs drop off 'you were out when we called' letters, so decided to be proactive and ring everyone she owed money to, explaining that she'd left the country. That sorted it, no worries.

  • As advised above and, any problems with bailiffs (who can be most rude, insistent and unpleasant..) call Police & tell bailiff you/wife are doing just that.

    I've had all sorts of bills and threats and bailiffs letters for previous tenants over the years: Never ever had a bailiff turn up on the doorstep.

    I did have a bailiff on the doorstep. Told him he had the wrong person and he toddled off, no problem.
