in Credit cards
I just have to share this with someone...
Barclaycard wrote to me to inform me that they have reduced my credit limit by over 90% because of their ongoing committment to debt prevention during an account review. I didn't have a problem with that at all because i haven't used them for a BT since opening the card.
I wrote to cancel the card....
They replied saying they were sorry but could not reinstate my credit limit (something i hadn't mentioned in my letter
) and that it would remain at £260.
I wrote again to cancel, but heard nothing in reply.
I phoned to cancel and gave my name and address and my last three digits of my home phone number and was told the card would now be cancelled. (Very strict security there then:eek: ) All i asked for was written confirmation, nothing arrived.
I have just phoned them to chase my cancellation confirmation, only to find they will continue to hold my account details and information for 6 months - in case i wish to reinstate my account! I felt this was odd in an era of identity theft and CC fraud. I voiced my complaints but they say nothing can be done, very odd. So i asked for the cancellation confirmation to be sent out, but they can't resend the letter. I can only get a letter which says the account has been cancelled because i am moving abroad! WHAT?? The choices she gave me included Botswana, which sounded delightful so now i am waiting for this letter.
How much of this can they do? How much is bang out of order? and am i over-reacting? I was going to send out some letter to various people but thought i'd get an opinion from you guys too. (sorry for the long post, but i am totally flummoxed!)

Barclaycard are a bunch of cretinous morons. In fact that is an insult to cretinous morons. I suffered a similar fate. They reduced my credit limit too to £260. I phoned to cancel the card, paying my balance off in full by debit card. They have not closed my account. I write, they do not respond. I call, and it is impossible to get through to an operator that speaks English as a native language. Incredible isn't it?Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

I'm sorry, I don't apologise. That's just the way I am. Homer (Simpson)0
