My daughter who is 5 months pregnant lives with her boyfriend at his mums house.

He works and earns around £800 a month.

Her boyfriend doesn't give her anything as he sees it as that is his money

Is he going to carry on like this after their baby is born? :(

If your daughter has paid enough NI contributions over the past 2/ 3 years could she consider applying for contributions based JSA ? She could claim this irrespective of her partners income.
  • Can she not sign up to an employment agency like reed etc to get temp work through them? Maybe she could even sign up to a few. I'm guessing she's probably thought of that though. It's a tough situation to be in but if he's the father he's going to have to step up and support her and his child.
  • Obviously red flag from boyfriends attitude. Most likely she will realise at some point and come home. In the meantime she has no money for herself. Ir it were me I would register with an agency to get anything which is not unsafe for a baby etc and not tell a soul.
Remember when you judge someone, it does not define them ... You define yourself :j

He works and earns around £800 a month. Because she did seasonal work she is now unemployed and although applying for loads of jobs as soon as they find out shes pregnant she doesn't hear anything else from them.
She has applied for Universal credits and was told to do a joint claim with her boyfriend.
Today her universal credit account shows she is entitled to nothing even though the lady at the job centre said she would get something.

Anybody got any idea what she can do?
The biggest thing that she should have done has sadly come and gone at this point, so whatever route she takes she’s going to be poor and to struggle from here.

Her boyfriend needs to get a proper job, one that pays a sensible adult wage. He needs to understand that they have (and why? Why did they possibly think this made sense?) chosen to have a baby with no means to support it, and to get out there today to improve his situation.

If I was her I wouldn't mention the pregnancy at all at interviews/in applications.

    They may notice the bump!
