  • Hi all

The support around here is lovely, and its really spurring me on, thanks all.

Our electricity DD is going up £10 a month - no huge surprise there, we were on a fixed rate which has just ended. DH reckons we could save by getting rid of our very old second freezer which he is convinced is costing us a fortune. I am not so sure. Anyway, have shopped about and we are now on a new fixed rate.

No spends today, work, gym, more work - and thats been about it. Need to put £10 in the tea/coffee fund at work tomorrow. Will be glad when I am absolutely clear about minimum payments on the debts - have shuffled so much about that I think I know where I am but it will be good to have the proper figures.

Oh and I have found £18 in two old fivers and some old pound coins in a drawer. Will take that to the bank tomorrow, feel like I have won the lottery!

  • Well, I have decided to use an envelope system on the basis that if I stop using my cards, and live on cash, it will stop me going into the overdraft.

So I drew out £100 cash for food and diesel for the week yesterday, then forgot I had the cash in my purse and used my card in the supermarket - but only £7 so not a disaster. Think this is going to be a bit of a learning curve. Also, who knew that one leek would cost 40p! This budgeting lark is an eye opener.

So, home made chicken, leek and bacon pie for tea, then out tonight for a meeting. I can claim travel costs from work for this meeting, wouldnt have normally bothered but have just realised that it's 20 miles so £8.

Sounds like you have a plan with the envelope system , I think you have to do what suits you best for you to succeed so give it a go .

  • Hi Yorkshire lass - I think we could be twins :rotfl: same county (I am west), same age almost, two.kids and debt hoping to pay off in 5 years!

I will subscribe and cheer you on. I am planning on starting my own diary - just gathering all my debt totals together.

    Good luck.

  • Balanceby50 love it! I keep dreaming about how much better my finances will be by the time I get to that big birthday, glad we are together on this.

It's been a tricky week, lots going on at work, and some challenges with the finances. Dithered for ages about whether to renew my parking permit, at £30 for six months it gives me some free parking and I use it when the car park is full at work sometimes, but £30 feels like a lot at the moment. I did buy it in the end, still not sure if it was the right decision.

Food shopping has been hard too, need to do better with mealplanning, but I have kept to the budget. Will check finances properly tomorrow.
