No sound on pc ? Help needed please

When i load up a music cd to listen to in my tower , i cant get it to come through my head phones when they are plugged in ? I dont have any pc speakers attached to the tower and ive checked all the volume controls which are full up ? Any help please

    some PCs need an extra cable from the cd player to the sound card.

    Right im lost lol ! Im on apc which was given to me and to be honest its the first time ive tried it to listen to music .
  • Are you listening through the socket of the cd player at the front, or though the socket in the back of your PC?

    Can you hear any other sounds through the headphones, such as the Windows jingle when you boot up?
    Have you got the headphones plugged into the right socket - not plugged into the mic socket by mistake?

    also there are 3 sockets at the sound card end, are you sure youre in the correct one?

  • Jesus ! No nothing when restarting up on windows jingle but bloody hell ive my head phones plugged in and a music cd in tower , and i have just noticed a button on the cd drawer with the play and fast foward sign so i thought id press it !

    We have lift off ! nearly took my head off with the level of sound ! seemed to just play without going through a media player , i just need a new pair of ears now guys lol !
