Equifax - Incorrect name - Attributable Data (Going for a mortgage)

Options
Hi,

Long story short, I am going for a mortgage soon. I have yet to apply, so I decided to check out my credit file.

I signed up for TalkTalk years ago. I have never missed a payment, or had any problems and thus I've had no reason to ever contact them. My bills come of via my bank account.

I checked Equifax and was surprised to see my TalkTalk account linked under Attributable Data. The name on the account is incorrect. My DOB is correct however.

I have been speaking to TalkTalk who have said there must have been a misunderstanding when signing up. I have also raised a dispute with Equifax.

They got my surname right, but mispelt it. The first name TalkTalk used, I don't know how they came to that.

Will this affect me going for a mortgage and can I get it corrected, or will that incorrect name be linked to me forever. The account is still open, and TalkTalk have said they have amended it to my correct name.

I was worrying that when going for a mortgage, a lender would see this and ask what is this about and therefore decline a mortgage based on it? Can anyone advise?

As said this account has never missed a payment. My credit rating is excellent.

What is the likelihood of being rejected for a mortgage based on this and what steps can I take?

Many thanks

  • If TT have now amended it, it should then flow through to your files.

Remember to check all three to ensure accuracy across all your credit files.

    Brilliant thanks.

Now, upon further investigation I had two phone purchases (one I'm still paying off) with Ratesetter, but they have the incorrect address linked to the account.

Its bizarre because the phones were delivered to my correct address which is no. 19, however, on my credit file under the phone agreements they have no 29.

I'm trying to get everything in order for when I do go for a mortgage. How best do I approach this and getting it fixed?
