20%+
Hi all,
So it's time to renew my fixed energy tariff and I see that with my current supplier the new price per month is over 20% more than the current monthly tariff. My account is in credit after the latest Bill (today) so I am not using more energy.
I know they put prices up but not by 20% surely, what is going on here? Anyone else noticing such extreme increase from their suppliers?
Yes, know I can switch but a monthly increase from £130 to £162 with no increase in consumption is messed up. Surely?
Cheers

Everyone has noticed. There have been many threads about it.
Prices have gone up and will still go up this year.
Why?
1. Lots of energy firms have gone bust in the past 12 months so cheap prices are not available. All the firms that went to the wall were cheap suppliers. Who couldn't turn a profit.
2. Government's Standard Variable Tariff Energy Cap has seen lots of companies remove cheap fixes as someone has to pay for the price cap.
3. Wholesale prices haven risen.
4. Foreign exchange rate is down, energy is priced in the US Dollar.
Just a few of the reasons.0 -
My fixed contract finishes in September and currently the cheapest Electricity is 15% more expensive and gas is 24% more expensive. The DSC is the same but I get £60pa back with my present company for dual fuel and on-line management.
This cheapest new deal is with a company I have never heard of and will probably go bust before September.0
