Underpinning and insurance claim

A number of years ago (can’t remember too welll but no more than four) I had to make an insurance claim for subsidence that occurred on a small porch than extended from my flat.
The insurance came through and the porch was underpined.
Since then in the last five months the subsidence has returned.

1. How long should underpinning last?
2. Since we don’t want our present buildings insurance (different insurer) effected by another claim, referencing question 1, would it be appropriate to the previous insurer and question the quality of the underpinning and request resolution?

  • Pretty sure the work will be guaranteed for at least 10 years so your original insurance company will be responsible, but your current insurance company will have to be informed and they may deal with the original company on your behalf

    Be very careful !

Don't speak to your current Insurers about subsidence happening again, unless you told the current Insurers about previous subsidence and they agreed to provide cover.

And was it actually subsidence or just that the porch was not built correctly.

Go back to the Insurers that dealt with the original claim and discuss the way forward with them.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
