i didn't do the exhaust mods, i however have unrestricted the airbox and it has a K&N panel filter in it. The number was given to me in rough from a mechanic i have no idea what its running really. I know alot of engine work was done by the previous owner inlcuding replacing the injectors, throttle body and the belts so if i was to replace tappets i would most likely get it done by using the tool. At the moment i think theyre just noisy and i doubt theyre causing too much damage to the engine so i'm not too worried.0

any easy way to unblock this?
As repairs go it’s not too difficult, sump off, unbolt the pick up tube, unblock it (soak it in petrol and clean out the mesh) or fit a new pick up. Put it back together with a new gasket, oil filter and fresh oil.
If the above sounds like double Dutch to you, then take it to a garage. It’s easy enough if you’re handy with tools but it needs doing right and would take a couple of hours max for a mechanic to do in a workshop. When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on0 -
The only way the pick-up gets blocked is through inadequate servicing in the past - sludge from oil that's not been changed on time.0

Agreed, not helped by Vauxhall specifying 20k miles as the interval on an old engine design...When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on0 -

MK2 Astra used to be like that as well. I bought one off a guy I worked with and he followed me to work one day. When we got there he asked what I had done as it had never gone so fast with him. I replied that I took off the cone filter he'd fitted and put back the original air filter box and a normal filter. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
