If your bank services the DD guarantee then you'll have no claim to take to SCC as you'll have all your money back.1

The fact is that I have little faith in the "direct debit guarantee". All my bank (Nationwide) has said so far is "We will look into it". How are they going to do that? They only have the information I can provide - and I have provided what I have to them. I am half expecting to them to say "Its your word against theirs" - since the key bit of evidence is a somewhat hazy memory of a 5 minute phone call around 28th October.
Further research has shown that phone call was from "Aditus" a marketing agency - hence the plethora of magazines that are now arriving on my doorstep. The latest is a magazine called "The Critic" (that's no.3). When I rang them they were far more helpful than the people at Shoe Lane Press - and gave me the number of "Aditus" to call - which turned out to be the same number as for "Perspective" magazine, etc.

As an update on my case with three magazines (Perspective, Puzzle and The Critic), I reported it to my bank, Nationwide, invoking the "direct debit guarantee". The money - total £76.98 - has now been refunded.
Further research showed the company that rang me was not Shoe Lane Press themselves, but "Aditus Audience Acquisition Ltd", a marketing organisation that does cold calling. It appears that publishers like Shoe Lane Press employ Aditus as an agency to put these scam type "offers".
I hope others are warned off - and encouraged to claim back any money taken from them under false pretences .1
