Heating stops cycling after several hours

I have a problem which has progressively got worse over the last week or so.
The heating cycles around the set thermostat temperature happily from start up in the morning until several hours later and then heating cuts out and does not cycle / re-start boiler when house cools below set temperature.
To start with if I turned the Drayton RF601 setting down below the desired temp and then turned back up to desired setting the heating came back on but this trick has progressively not worked from working first or second time, to 10 times, to last night not working at all. Hot water works OK.
I emailed Drayton and they suspected a relay switch issue in the receiver unit, the thermostat and receiver unit is 11 years old. After the total failure last evening with the heating not coming back on even after using my 'trick' that had worked previously I contacted my heating engineer who is coming around today and I picked up last evening a new RF601 for him to fit.
HOWEVER: this morning the heating came on as normal so I am again doubting if the thermostat is the real reason or if it is something else. I also turned off and on the timer several times when trying to solve the issue yesterday but didn't kick the heating back into life.
I will have the new RF themo fitted as it is 11 years old but I now really don't know if that is the real issue or something else, seems weird how it works for several hours and then stops cycling (the timer is showing as being on at these times of failure and boiler is OK as hot water works OK at all times)
I'll feedback if the new replacement thermostat solves the problem or not, but in case it doesn't does anyone know what else it could be?

When was the last time you changed the batteries?
Does the heating come on when you press the override button on the receiver?0 -

The batteries are OK,fairly recently fitted and no low battery level symbol on Thermostat unit. From the LEDs on the receiver unit I could see that a signal is being sent and received but not kicking in the heating.
Drayton did say that the override button would work but it didn't for me.
Anyway I have just had an identical RF601 thermostat and receiver fitted, I won't tempt fate by saying it's fully fixed yet but hopefully that will solve the issue, I'll feedback after hopefully a few days of trouble free heating or sooner if it isn't fixed.0 -
If the override did not work that points to the receiver(relay?) being the problem.
I would have upgraded to a programmable thermostat.
and considered one of the internet accessible units0 -
Yes I could have gone for a more advanced thermostat and receiver system but the other one had served our needs and I just wanted the heating fixed as quickly and simply as possible in this cold weather.
Hopefully the receiver relay being faulty was the issue.0 -
I had exactly the same issue, also a Drayton thermostat which was only a year and a half old. I've replaced it and it now seems fine.0

New replacement Drayton RF601 has cured the issue, however the new Thermostat seems to be cycling the heating system very frequently and operating in a very small temperature window, I'll raise another thread about this.0
